Inspector Warrant – Overview:

This one day workshop is designed for people undertaking non-invasive activities where workers are on foot and have minimum interference with the road user.  The workshop covers theory in the morning and practical tasks in the afternoon.  Workshop content is similar to TMO but inspector includes Cat C inspection material as well.

Scope of the Inspector Role:

  • This is a standalone warrant and does not require an STMS to be supervising.
  • It allows inspection activities to be carried out on all roads (but only the shoulder of multi-lane roads with speeds 70km/h or more (Cat C roads).
  • Undertake inspection activities on all roads except on the lane of high-speed multi lane roads (Cat C)
  • Undertake roadside activities on roads with permanent speeds of 60km/h or less (Cat A)
  • Non invasive activities undertaken where workers are on foot, undertaking simple tasks, and have minimum interference with the road user
  • Tasks which can be completed as an inspection activity include observation, using a measuring wheel, traffic counts / installing traffic count equipment / road maintenance activities such as removal of litter, cleaning signs, cleaning edge markers or taking photographs/completing TTM audits.
Please note you may need to look at the TMO Practicing or STMS Practicing unit standard qualification instead if:
  • You are conducting more complex activities, or those where a person cannot immediately move off the live lane on approach of a vehicle (this would also require a more substantial mobile or static closure) OR
  • You are regularly involved in installation of TTM closures on CAT A/B roads, which could include inspections/non invasive work, you are NOT ELIGIBLE for the Inspector warrant
