New Micro-Credential – Perform Mobile Operations within the Road Reserve

Learning Outcomes:
1)  Explain the requirements for a mobile operation for TTM.
2)  Perform mobile operations within the road reserve

Waka Kotahi will discontinue the STMS Mobile warrant in the near future.  To replace this, there will be two new skill standards – Mobile Driver – this skill standard (Level 3 for mobile drivers) and a new Level 4 standard for those that Supervise a mobile operation.  

Elite Safety Training, as an NZQA-approved Private Training Establishment (PTE), will soon deliver the Level 3 Mobile Driver qualification (this one) under the new TTM Credentials Framework. This nationally recognised programme will be delivered as the above micro-credential.

Our training is tailored to your industry, making it as relevant and practical as possible for your role.

Pre-Requisites

There is no prerequisite for this training programme, however learners must have access to a workplace that can meet the work based component of this skill standard (log book of activities), and learners must hold the relevant drivers license to be able to perform the mobile tasks. 

ID:  You must be a NZ Resident or NZ Citizen, or on a current and valid work visa where your employer requires you to complete this training as part of your role.

Who Should Attend:

This programme is designed for people working as part of a mobile operation team, in driver roles such as Lead Pilot Vehicle Driver, Work Vehicle Driver, Shadow Vehicle Driver, Tail Pilot Driver. 

In can include anyone who is working in a TTM mobile activity operation including installation and removal of:

  • >   TTM Mowing
  • >   TTM Line Marking
  • >   TTM Grader/Sweeper drivers
  • >  Any other TTM related activity that requires mobile installation.

If you are the mobile lead/supervisor for a mobile team, you will need to get the current STMS Mobile Practicing NZTA warrant until the Level 4 standard is available in 2026.

Pre-Assessment Applied Workplace Practice

 

Practical Assessment (half day)

This assessment is completed using either your workplace Risk Assessment and TMP (if it is suitable for assessment purposes) or our Training Risk Assessment and TMP relevant to your role. Assessment Tasks Include:

  • Communications prepared, layout diagrams checked.
  • Vehicle and Equipment Checks
  • Additional Risks identified 
  • Safe practice 
  • Onsite communications are communicated to the mobile lead/supervisor

Assessment can be completed with our Elite Safety Training Assessors, or with your workplace verifier (approved by Elite Safety Training).

Booked the Training Programme?  What happens next…

  • Once you have booked the programme, the learner will receive an email to complete enrolment, and once complete the employer will get notification that the learner has been accepted onto the programme.
  • From there the learner will receive a log in to our online portal.  This will be where the eLearning can be completed, You must complete this before you attend the workshop.
  • Attend an in person workshop or online live workshop (morning).
  • Complete the work based practice template – this can be uploaded into the eLearning portal.  
  • Complete a practical assessment in person with an Elite Safety Training assessor (in the afternoon) or with your approved workplace verifier.
  • Once the assessment is successfully completed you will be advised if you have achieved the skill standard or not yet achieved.  If not yet achieved you will be given further opportunity to complete part or all of the assessment again.

Pricing & Payment:

  • Cost – TBC+GST per person.  Contact us for group booking charges.
  • An invoice will be generated, and payment is required by due date on the invoice.
  • All workshops must be paid in full prior to attending unless you have an arrangement with us.

Cancellations:

There are limits on how many trainees can attend each workshop, so we do have wait lists for workshops.  Because of this we have a cancellation policy, which is in place to make sure that if there is a cancellation there is enough time to be able to fill your space before the workshop.  You can find our full Terms and Conditions and Cancellation Policy at the bottom of this page.
