STMS Assessment Overview:
Unit Standard 31963 (Level 3, 20 credits)
To complete a practical assessment for Unit Standard 31963, you must have first completed 2 TTM closures per category of road you require your qualification on. Those closures need to be verified and signed off by a TTM Mentor, or someone within your company that is a leader in TTM (ie an existing STMS) and understands the tasks involved. Elite Safety can assist you with completing both the verifications and assessment(s) or just the assessment(s)!
Verification Tasks completed by the Trainee and signed off by a Verifier:
- Category A Road (60km or less): A shoulder closure and a multi-lane closure. One closure must deal with pedestrian or cyclist management. (choose 2)
- Category B Road (70km or more): Could be either a shoulder closure, a lane diversion, or a ramp closure (choose 2)
Assessment Tasks Completed by the Trainee and observed and signed off by our TTM Assessor:
- Category A Road (60km or less): Live Lane closure with alternating flow control.
- Category B Road (70km or more): Live Lane closure with alternating flow control.
If you complete 3 closures on one category of road you will receive:
- NZQA Unit Standard 31963 (STMS Practicing) – Operate as a Practicing STMS within a road environment as defined in CoPTTM.
Pre-requisites:
You must have completed the STMS Cat AB NP workshop and gained Unit Standard 31962 before attending this training.
Who Should Attend:
This is for anyone who has completed unit standard 31962 that wants to progress to practicing in the STMS role.
What we can provide:
- TMO + TTM Truck and Gear for the practical training
- You may be asked to provide a second vehicle and a helper to assist with the closures.
Booked the Training – What happens next…
Once you have confirmed the training by accepting the estimate that has been sent through, we will send you the following information to prepare before the day:
- Training TMP
- Onsite Records to be used on the day
- a Briefing Guide
- You will also be given the opportunity to speak with the assessor and ask any questions before the day.
Before the Practical Training Block:
- You will receive email confirmation of the practical training outlining what to bring and prepare for before the day.
What to Bring:
- Hi Vis Vest (must be compliant ie TTMC-W17)
- Long sleeve top and full length pants
- Gloves for handling TTM equipment
- Steel Cap lace up boots
- Safety glasses or sun glasses
- Wet weather gear if required
- If you haven’t already provided this to us, please bring either your NSN Number (National Student Number) or Photo ID (must be passport or Birth Certificate) with you on the day. If you don’t know your NSN number you can either call NZQA on 0800 697 296 or follow this link to obtain online.
Training on the Day:
- Morning tea and a lunch is not provided but there will be breaks throughout the day to eat or pop away to get something to eat.
- The training is outdoors all day.
After the Training Block:
- On successful completion of the training, your Unit Standard 31963 will then be registered with Connexis.
- You will receive a certificate from Elite Safety within 7 days confirming completion of the workshop and the Unit Standard.
Indicative Pricing & Payment:
- $850+ GST minimum for 1 assessment (A or B). This includes the cost of $130+GST to register 10 credits with NZQA for unit standard 31963 + assessor time + administration costs). This does not include verifications, hire of gear, vehicles or helpers, travel time if out of town, mileage or accommodation costs, this will be charged additionally and will be included in your estimate of costs OR
- $1570+ GST minimum for 2 assessments (A and B). This includes the cost of $130+GST to register 10 credits with NZQA for unit standard 31963 + assessor time administration costs). This does not include verifications, any hire of gear, vehicles or helpers, travel time if out of town, mileage or accommodation costs, this will be charged additionally and will be included in your estimate of costs.
- An invoice will be generated, and payment is required by due date on the invoice.
- All training must be paid in full prior to attending unless you have an arrangement with us.
- If we need to register any further unit standards these will be additional.
Qualification:
Waka Kotahi (NZTA): Please note from 1 November 2024 Waka Kotahi will no longer issue warrants for this qualification. You will however receive the following NZQA Unit Standard:
- NZQA Unit Standard 31963 – Operate as a practicing STMS within a road environment as defined in CoPTTM.
Cancellations:
There is a strict cancellation policy for any practical assessments. If you cancel at short notice you may be charged for the assessor’s time and any hire of TTM equipment and helpers.
