TMO 2 Day Practical Training Block Overview:

Unit Standard 31960 (Level 3, 10 credits)

We run this training block with minimum and maximum 4 people at a time, as follows:

  • Day 1 – Mentor Verification tasks and mentoring for the assessment, with our TTM Mentor.
  • Day 2 – Assessment Tasks with our TTM and Connexis Assessor.

The trainee will be observed:

  • Maintaining a closure – berm activity or footpath control.
  • Maintaining a closure – lane merge, lane shift, cycle lane diversion, or priority control with TSL.
  • Undertaking an inspection activity on the shoulder of a category B road environment.
  • Using techniques to deal with conflict on the worksite.
  • Maintaining a closure – controlling alternating flow.
  • Installing, maintaining and removing a shoulder closure worksite clear of the live lane
  • Undertaking an inspection activity on a Category A road environment.

It will benefit the trainee to gain some experience on a TTM site before attending this training block.  Please discuss this with us if you are unsure.

From 1 November 2024, on successful completion of this training block you will receive:

  • NZQA Unit Standard 31960 (TMO Practicing) – Maintain the TTM worksite, install and remove a worksite, and undertake an inspection activity.

Who Should Attend:

This is for anyone who has completed unit standard 31959 that wants to progress to practicing in the TMO role.  The TMO practicing qualification allows you to set up/pack up anything that does not affect the live lane (ie shoulder, footpath, berm).  Please note footpath closures may be slightly different if you are directing pedestrians to cross the road, in this case you may need to have an STMS qualification.

A Practicing TMO can also maintain a site on the live lane of a Cat A or B road while the STMS is away from site (provided the site has been handed over to them from the STMS).

What we provide for the training block:

  • TTM Truck and Gear for the practical training
  • TTM Mentor for day 1
  • STMS for day 2
  • TTM and Connexis Assessor.

Cancellations:

There is a strict minimum and maximum of 4 trainees for this workshop.  This is to keep costs down for all, but to also allow enough 1-1 time for each trainee to spend with the mentor/assessor.  If we get a cancellation at short notice and are unable to fill this we may need to reschedule the training block to another date.  It is really important that you allow us enough time to be able to fill your space before the day.  You can find our full Terms and Conditions and Cancellation Policy HERE.

Practical Training Locations:

Most practical training is based in Queenstown, but we can come to you throughout Otago, Central Otago and Southland, and even further afield, if you have a group of 4 or more employees needing to attend this training.  Please get in touch with us directly about scheduling this.
